When it comes to the best Fire-type Pokemon, there is a lot of fierce and, well, fiery competition to consider. Here’s our attempt to distill things down to the absolute ten greatest of all time.
10. Arcanine
Not only is Arcanine an absolutely adorable doggo, but but they’re not bad at all when it comes to practical combat use. This Fire-type Pokemon coming out of the very first generation is a nice, solid choice for anyone looking for a defensive Pokemon in their line-up. They also have a good pool of abilities to choose from that can offer support or offense options.
9. Entei
Another adorable Pokemon in a more dignified, terrifying way. Entei is a Legendary Fire beast from the second generation. Utilizing their incredibly high attack power is key to success here, though their speed makes them tough to catch. Inner Focus is nice if you’re going up against something with Intimidate, which can hurt during long-term PvP fights. Either way, Entei is an incredibly valuable addition to any Pokemon trainer’s stable.
8. Torkoal
We are three for three for adorableness. A flame turtle that exhales steam through their nose? What could be cuter? On the other hand, If you’re looking for solid offensive action, Torkoal is the Pokemon for you. Introduced in the third generation, Torkoal can be an extremely powerful option in certain situations, especially when using abilities like Eruption to devastate your enemies. There’s a lot of upside to having Torkoal in your stable.
7. Moltres
The first dual-type on our list, Moltres, is a Fire/Flying type Pokemon, and they can be dangerous in the right situations. Plus, they have this majestic aesthetic going for them. Especially when they’re raining all kinds of damage down upon your enemies. Moltres is an excellent choice for pure physical damage, or unleashing all kinds of special attacks. You can’t really go wrong here.
6. Heatran
Heatran is something of a unique addition here, as they are the only known (so far anyway) Fire/Steel dual-type Pokemon in existence. They also don’t have any evolutionary forms known. On top of that, Heatran can be an absolute menace in any battle situation. Coming equipped with extremely high defense and special attack stats, Heatran can lay waste while proving incredibly difficult to hit.
5. Charizard
You knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming. Heck, your grandmother probably could have predicted this one. Charizard is likely what most people think of when they talk about Fire Pokemon, and there’s a good reason for it. This particular Fire/Flying hybrid brought in during the very first generation is incredibly powerful today, thanks to some unique and extremely powerful Mega Evolutions. Make no mistake: Charizard is still a force to be reckoned with.
4. Chi-Yu
This fishy-looking Pokemon may not look particularly menacing, but there is more here than meets the eye. Chi-Yu is a Legendary Fire/Dark dual-type Pokemon from the ninth generation, and there is good reason to add this filet of fiery fish to your party as soon as possible. Their Beads of Ruin ability is unbelievable in the best way, and the added arsenal of Dark attacks gives them a different flavor from other Fire types.
3. Primal Groudon
Groudon, who comes from the third generation, is already a formidable Ground-type Legendary Pokemon on a good day. Still, if you add in their Primal form, things become even more interesting. In this form, Groudon gets a large boost to several stats and access to some pretty powerful Fire abilities. Thanks to its increased stats, it becomes the perfect option for attack and defense. It’s actually a little scary how effective Primal Groudon is.
2. Reshiram
Hailing from the fifth generation, Reshiram is an extremely dangerous Fire/Dragon Legendary Pokemon. Their ridiculously high stats mean they don’t have very many natural enemies that can go toe-to-toe, and they are capable of dealing a large amount of damage in no time at all. Plus, they have this dragon/fairy/bird vibe going for them that is equal parts disturbing and majestic. That’s enough of a reason for me to include them in future line-ups, to be honest.
1. Incineroar
Coming right out of the seventh generation, Incineroar is yet another Fire/Dark dual Pokemon, and they are arguably the best of the best in the Fire division. What makes Incineroar so good is that they have a diverse moveset of Dark and Fire abilities, meaning you can fit them into almost any situation. Plus, they have a ton of resistance and very little in the way of exploitable weaknesses. The fact that Intimidate is so powerful is almost just a cherry on top at this point.
