The latest horror adventure from The Chinese Room, Still Wakes the Deep, is now available on PC and consoles. The Unreal Engine 5 title is visually stunning, and the Steam version runs great, with plenty of settings to tweak including support for upscaling technologies. However, the controller support isn’t perfect at the moment, and if you’re running into any issues while playing Still Wakes the Deep, especially with PlayStation controllers, here is how you can fix those.
Fixing Still Wakes the Deep Controller Issues
To make sure your controllers work properly in Still Wakes the Deep, you need to enable Steam Input.
To do this, follow the steps below:
- Make sure Still Wakes the Deep isn’t running
- Open Steam, and navigate to your library
- Here, right-click on Still Wakes the Deep and select Properties
- Here, in the Controller tab, make sure Enable Steam Input is selected in the dropdown
That’s all you need to do, and your PlayStation controllers should work now.
Controller Support on PC
The controller support for Still Wakes the Deep is a bit lacking, and while Steam Input allows you to play with most controllers, there are only button prompts available for Xbox controllers. PlayStation controllers just don’t work without Steam Input and don’t have correct prompts.
Even if you set the “Controller Hardware” in Control to PlayStation Controller, it doesn’t really do anything, and you’ll still get Xbox prompts. This setting leads me to believe that this feature is currently bugged, otherwise, there wouldn’t be any mention of a PlayStation controller in the game.
We are hopeful that these issues will be addressed in an upcoming because as of writing, the only way to play the game with a non-Xbox controller is to use Steam Input.
The game also doesn’t have Steam Cloud, so if you want to back up your progress, make sure to check out the save file location.
