Still Wakes the Deep is a technically impressive Unreal Engine 5 release from The Chinese Room. This horror title runs great on PC, and there are plenty of settings to tweak, at least on the Steam version. Its ultrawide support is a bit lackluster, and you’ll be greeted with the usual black borders and incorrect FOV. Thankfully, a patch by Rose from the widescreen community fixes the Still Wakes the Deep ultrawide issues on PC.
Fixing the Still Wakes the Deep Ultrawide Issues
The patch from Rose removes all black bars and corrects the FOV issues in Still Wakes the Deep while playing in widescreen and wider resolutions.
Installing the patch is simple, and you can do so by following the steps below.
- Head over to the following GitHub link
- Download the patch file by clicking the Still.Wakes.The.Deep.widescreen.v1.0.zip under assets
- Extract the zip file in the following location for Steam
\Habitat\Binaries\Win64
- If you are playing the Game Pass version, you need to extract it in the following location instead
\Content\Habitat\Binaries\WinGDK
That’s all you need to do, and the next time you launch Still Wakes the Deep, the black bars will be completely removed with an appropriate FOV applied. Here is a screenshot of the opening cutscene provided by Rose.

How to Remove the Patch
Removing the patch is very simple. All you need to do is delete the files that you extracted in the main installation folder.
Currently, Still Wakes the Deep does not have Steam Cloud support, which means it’s a good idea to back up your progress by accessing the save file location. We’re surprised that it’s actually playable on the Steam Deck as well with a decent framerate and image quality. We’re hopeful that the developers can address the lack of upscaling technologies in the Game Pass version though, and maybe improve ultrawide support in an upcoming patch as well.
