Pax Dei has some production builds that take a while to craft certain resources. The first one you’ll encounter is the Charcoal craft from the Charcoal Kiln. You need to prioritize crafting these because it is time-gated. Here’s a quick guide on how to craft Charcoal in Pax Dei.
How to Craft Charcoal
To craft Charcoal, you need to build a Basic Charcoal Kiln. It needs 25 Clay and 10 Sapwood to craft, so it is a bit easy. However, you should also craft the Basic Blacksmithing Tools from the Basic Carpenters Workbench to unlock the production buildings.
You need 2 Iron Sheets, 2 Iron Bar, and 4 Iron Nails to craft the Basic Blacksmithing Tools. You need to be ready and farm all the Iron Ingots you can once you reach this stage. Once you have your Charcoal Kiln up, you need 50 Sapwood to craft 25 Charcoal. It is only crafted in bulk and it takes 20 minutes for each craft.
50 Sapwood is a lot, especially considering you are using these to craft Wooden Pegs, Planks, and other Wooden Beams and Stocks. Even if it takes 20 minutes for each Charcoal craft, you’ll need to stockpile some Sapwood, so you never run out of this vital resource.
What is Charcoal Used For?
Charcoal is needed in bulk to craft Iron Ingots. Once you have the Furnace, you’ll need 40 Impure Iron Ore and 80 Charcoal to craft 20 Iron Ingots. One craft takes one hour, which forces you to prioritize crafting these Iron Ingots so the Furnace is running at all times.
However, that’s a lot of Impure Iron Ores and Charcoals to stockpile. Since Charcoal also takes time to craft, you’ll need that Charcoal Kiln crafting at all times too. The good thing is that you can exit the game and the craft will still continue when you are offline. You can queue several crafts and leave the game for a while.
