The last few days have been a wild ride for Hollow Knight fans as Silksong has finally received not only an official page on Xbox (believe me, this is huge news for the fanbase), but also a supposed age rating on South Korea, signing at an upcoming release date.
It would be wonderful if that last part was also 100% true, as the game has not been officially rated just yet. Despite reliable and well-known figures such as Wario64 sharing the news, this was a product of unintended misinformation spreading fast once again. Let’s find out what really happened here.
As Wario64 is known for not sharing baseless rumors, or at least signing them as “not confirmed”, the info was immediately deemed reliable and shared across X (formerly Twitter). And there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary here at first glance, so we can’t blame the man at all. This is also the official South Korea site for game ratings, so he has an official source backing up the claims.
Except when you click on the link featured in the post, you’re taken to its Self Rate Game Statistics section as you can see through its link. Self Rate is the main term here. This means that anyone could register for any game they wanted here. The actual Game Statistics section doesn’t feature Hollow Knight: Silksong in it at all, no matter how you search for it. We can only assume the game isn’t really rated yet. Every day’s a circus for Hollow Knight fans.
This was brought to light by Reddit user ReFlectioH, who initially posted the findings in r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, but soon debunked their own post when they found out. Info likely got out before they noticed something was wrong, and it was too late by then. It is an official site, after all.
The user even made other posts and comments citing how one could find other non-rated titles in the Self Rate section, such as GTA VI, by searching at this section, showing how it isn’t a reliable source at all, but the initial damage was already done. For all purposes, Hollow Knight: Silksong hasn’t been rated yet, even though this sudden Self Rate feels rather strange. At this point, it might be better not to expect anything soon…
But just in case, it might be good to know that whenever a game is officially rated, it usually doesn’t take too long until it’s officially released or has a release date announced. And we still have a lot of announcements to be made during this year. It might just be that copium hitting in, but Silksong could get some real news pretty soon. The Xbox page already features an ESRB 10+ Rating, which is close to the supposed Korean rating.
But for now, it’s still just another day in the Circus. After hearing directly that the game would be out last year, the few remaining sane Silksong believers have nothing left to lose. They’re one with their clown suits by now. Send help. Please.
