Still Wakes the Deep, the Unreal Engine 5 horror title from The Chinese Room is now available on PC and consoles. The PC version, sadly, does not have cloud saves, which means you can potentially lose your progress and can’t share it between devices. You can back up your local data by accessing the Still Wakes the Deep save file location.
Still Wakes the Deep Save File Location
The save files for Still Wakes the Deep are available in the following location on PC.
C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Habitat\Saved\SaveGames
The SaveGames folder contains your progress, and I recommend backing up the entire folder just in case. Habitat likely refers to the internal project name, but I confirmed it’s for Still Wakes the Deep.
Faster Navigation
To quickly navigate to the same location, you can use Windows Run. You can bring up Run by pressing the Windows and R keys together.
Enter the following address, which will take you directly to your save files.
%USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Habitat/Saved/SaveGames
It’s a shame that the game doesn’t have Steam Cloud support because that makes it very easy to share progress between devices, and prevents loss in many cases like data corruption.
We hope that the developers add the feature in an upcoming update because it’s basically a standard at this point. Still Wakes the Deep isn’t a very long game, and shouldn’t take players a whole lot of time to finish, but that makes losing progress all the more annoying because of its narrative-driven structure.
Either way, it’s why we recommend that you back up your progress after crucial moments in a game like this. Still Wakes the Deep is a demanding title, and a lot of Unreal Engine games are prone to crash due to several factors, especially if you barely meet the requirements.
