We can never have enough Pokemon collabs, especially when the outcome is as cute as it is sweet. A recently revealed collaboration with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has us both disappointed and relieved: the adorable donuts are, as of now, exclusive to South Korea, making them a little too out of the way for many fans to try themselves. But at least we won’t need to schedule an extra dentist visit if they stay that way, nor do we have to worry about biting into donuts that are simply too cute to eat.
The half-dozen box comes complete with Kanto-centric donuts featuring the Pokemon Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Ditto, Psyduck, and Diglett, along with one plain glazed donut. They’re all precious, and while the real donuts aren’t as perfect as their promotional images make them out to be, as shown by fan photos like the one above by Twitter user @JihyeandKorea, that just adds to their charm. I’m surprised to say Diglett is my favorite in the looks department: a chocolate Diglett is part of an entire earthy scene on top of its donut, rather than just having its face painted on with icing.
Diglett also seems like a winner in the flavor department, although it’s tragically likely we won’t be able to test that out for ourselves in the near future. According to Instagram user snackolator, Diglett’s donut is dark chocolate flavored. Jigglypuff is a regular donut filled with strawberry cream (it isn’t certain if the icing is also strawberry flavored), a classic combination that fits the Pokemon very well. Ditto’s has a strawberry milk cream topping, a delicious addition to the confetti sprinkles beneath it. As for Pikachu and Psyduck, one is lemon and the other is described as “cream of the corn,” but didn’t clarify which is which.
As disappointing as it is that many fans outside of South Korea won’t be able to try these donuts, the real loss comes in the form of adorable plush key rings featuring Pikachu, Ditto, and Snorlax with donuts of their own as shown above. No matter how cute and delicious the donuts may be, it’s these plush toys that call to me most of all. Although it may not be likely that these key rings get released internationally, at least we can appreciate them in our hearts, which will also be clear from the donuts we didn’t eat.
